Ha! We just booked a week on this island. We had previously visited Isla Mujeres, which is fifteen minutes from Cancun on the ferry. Relaxed, safe, Caribbean. White coral beaches. All-inclusive.
But this time, after a worldwide shutdown, we are going to Isla Holbox. It is a two-hour drive from Cancun, then a short ferry ride. Even more low-keyed than Isla Mujeres. If we wanted to stay in high rise hotels and drink in crowds and party like it's 1999, then we would stay in Cancun. But our game is sipping cocktails, eating food and reading books in hammocks and beach chairs under palm trees. Relatively undeveloped. No mega-hotels. Hotels have maybe 20 rooms. 93 restaurants in town. Open air market.
We are excited. Late July. I just got my second vaccination last Sunday. Things are looking up!
