I, too, as a guitar player am envious as hell. I'm a good guitar player. Just good. It's very frustrating that I can't even be really good. Oh well, I have fun in my living room,anyway.
I think Mayer found his true self when he discovered the magic of Jerry Garcia. He was a little familiar of the Dead's music until he heard Althea in 2011. He spent the next two years playing nothing but Dead tunes and the rest is history.
BTW, the Shakedown version is from Wrigley Field on 6-30-17. The whole show is incredible. An even better Sugaree, IMO. Check out the set list:
