1990C4S is correct. It just needs a mild soap and lots of water. Professionals clean expensive hand-knotted wool rugs with mild soap like Ivory. One professional said he just brought them out to his driveway, laid them out in the sun, soaked it with the garden hose and used bar after bar of Ivory, sudsing and rinsing until it was clean.
