wow, 1/4 mile, that'd be a lot of coax! I'm sure hard wired is an option, and probably not a bad one as far as functionality.
Can you get power to the top of the hill?
I think wifi may still be a possibility. wifi camera at the gate with a directional antenna there. Repeater/bridge at the top of the hill possibly/probably with 2 directional antennas, then wifi at the house. Could you get line of sight like that, 2 legs?
