Great topic.
My '85 Carrera was my dad's. when he passed away early, I bought the car from my mother for what he paid. signed up for a DE, then more, then some more, then became an instructor, peaked in the early 2000's at 40 track days a year. then decided to gut it and converted to full race. ran with NASA for a bunch of years, mid-pack at best, but wow-what fun.
Just finished having the 3.2 rebuilt at 69k miles- 40k+ were track miles, so pretty good, I think.
Now at a crossroads. Love the car. know every bolt and it is a comfort-mentally at least. Gave up my competition license, instructing is still fun, but sure miss a street legal sports car. it makes no financial sense to convert to a road going outlaw style ride, but deep down that is what I want.
Like John, a piece of wisdom bestowed on me, of great value, was "keep the parts you take off to go racing" Unlike John, I did not heed it.
I could sell for Carrera race car prices or sink another $20k and put some street comfort back into her or keep on tracking...befuddled.
