My wife has been a project manager/site engineer for a manufactured home builder in our area for the last 20 years and has seen it all. I believe they sold 8 house in all of 2009 after the banks tightened up lending because of the previous year's debacle.
They wrote up contracts on 9 new individual family homes just last week alone (depending on financing) in a mostly rural area, not a large metropolitan tract style housing market.
People have some extra cash in the pocket from the government, which is also driving the existing real estate market bonkers with many large offers way over asking prices.
