Sorry, but you're pretty incorrect with that argument.
An 1911 is an automatic.. no debate, they have always been called automatics since the beginning of time.
Hence the caliber names .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) or 45 AUTO.
Automatic pistols predate semi or full auto rifles.
The only automatics before that were the likes of a Maxim which , well, it's a bit of a heavy thing, it's not personal weapon..
So to conclude : A Semi Automatic, is still an automatic, it self loads, automatically.
No human intervention is required to chamber the next round.
That has nothing to do with the trigger mechanism or the ability to fire more then 1 round with a single trigger pull. that would be called "full-auto" Auto load & Auto fire next round.
Both Semi and Full are automatic
a Semi cannot do full auto
a Full can usually also do semi , called "select fire"
