I think bring on a strictly commissioned mechanic to do specific jobs just so the doors stay open is a good idea. You can plan your workload around what you really want. What you can't do is take on every job that comes in. You'll have to start a waiting list to cull the herd.

Hard thing to do since you've established yourself and many people rely on your services.
