This guy, or gal showed up at the gate to our back yard at 6:00 AM. Our male dachshund, Reuben was in full alert mode, and really wanted a turtle sandwich. My wife moved him to the neighborhood common area and came back to bed. Then at 8:30 our female dachshund, Reece discovered it in the same spot, trying to access the back yard. The good news is the gate proved to be a good barrier.
So I loaded Mr. or (Ms.) Turtle into a bucket, put in in the back of the trusty El Camino and drove a mile south to an area along a creek, and bounded by a large field. I set him down and he took off into the woods. The area is full of deer tracks and we had 2.30 inches of rain last night so it is rater wet. It was 59 degrees at the time, but he took off at a good pace.
With our dogs, a turtle, or about any critter is not a welcome or good idea. The back yard is under the protection of Reuben. Toads, rabbits, mice, skinks, snakes, wolves, and grizzly bears are not allowed in the back yard when he is on patrol. I am afraid he would dissemble a tortoise.
