I feel bad for Evans but he shouldn't he be somewhat responsible for leaving himself in a prone position? Its not like he didn't know the hit was coming and it wasn't late.

All mostly true Joe, but if guilty of charging and then that charging results in injury I feel an extra whack on his peepee is deserved.
I say mostly because I don't agree that the "checkee" leaning forward relieves the "checker" of the responsibility to at least try to mitigate the hit. I don't think the hit was cheap or dirty but there was no attempt to stay the blow.
