I posted this in the 911 Technical Forum, and someone suggested I post it here...
So, we're getting ready to travel to Dallas to see my family for the first time post-COVID. My dad hasn't seen my 1980 911 SC Targa that I acquired in 2017 since it is not viable for my mom to travel up here. I'm considering driving down for this visit, and of course back. I considered shipping one direction, but it is both cost and time-prohibitive since there are no direct routes between Portland and Dallas.
If I do this, my 17-year-old daughter is saying she will go with me on the way. I don't see the point in doing it if I just drive on Interstates the whole way, so I'll be mapping out the smaller roads and highways, which will add a bit of time to the trip.
This brings me to the things I am considering and my request for input from other Pelicans:
- Obviously, I'll do an oil change before, and ship supplies to my parents' house for an oil change there.
- I'll pack jack stands, extra oil, drive belt, etc. - anything more esoteric I should consider?
- I'm considering routes that will take me through Oregon (obviously), southern Idaho, northern and eastern Utah, western Colorado, and possibly Wyoming and southern and western Montana.
- Do you have any favorite drives or routes you would be open to sharing?
- On my return, when I am by myself, would you be interested in meeting me for one of the drives?
- Are there other things I haven't considered?
If you want to reply to me directly, of course, a PM is welcome and I'll be happy to send you my email as well.
Thanks!
Todd
