1984, we were canvassing door to door for new home delivery milk customers. I had just finished at a house and walked through the back yard to the neighbor's house. There was a shepardish dog chained to the shed. I stopped to pat and talk to him and walked up to the door to knock. When my knuckles hit the door casing, I felt a blow on my left calf like the impact of a baseball bat. I turned to see the dog slinking away.
The folks offered first aid, iodine for the puncture wounds and bandages. The hour and a half drive home on my bike was a challenge. Never had an infection but did worry about blood clots for a few days.
