I don't remember ever being bitten by a dog. My grandparents had a German shepherd that was super protective of them, but especially my grandmother. If my grandfather moved too quickly around my grandmother, the dog would grab his hand (more of a grab than a bite). They had friends who were bit by the dog. I moved really, really slowly around the dog or would ask my grandfather to hold on to it if I needed to move around.
I used to deliver news papers on foot and occasionally on a bicycle. I dropped them off super early, so rarely ran into a dog when I was delivering but I did have what I think may have been a boxer mix come through a screen door at me once when I was trying to collect. When I got home, my receipt book had teeth-marks in it. I would occasionally run into that dog when delivering, but it would be chained to a tree, so I was able to stay at chain's length and be safe.
