Late seeing this, Discseven, but I'm all for your idea. Sometimes it's about the journey! And rattle cans can deliver nearly the same quality that a professional gun/compressor/booth can... it just takes a lot more work, and likely more steps along the way.

What color have you chosen? Metallic/pearl will make things difficult. Maybe better to go Maaco/side-job in that case. With regard to your online vendor, there may be better options... are there any local auto paint suppliers? You can take your paint code to them, too. Especially if you're planning to scale up, they may be able to offer a discount.
