Like many others, I’ve been fascinated with the new generation Targa and how the top operates. It seems like a sleight of hand. They nailed the look with the retro styling. In particular, I’m a fan of the stainless brushed look targa bar as it is more reminiscent of the original Targa introduced in 1967. This 4S is part of a dying breed. It’s the first and last of the modern era old school Targa tops that still has a normally aspirated (NA) engine. I love the sweet sound of that 3.8L flat six that still produces 400 hp and 325 lb-ft. of torque. Unfortunately, the twin turbo era took over in 2017 and I fear we won’t see another NA engine in these cars ever again.

The first owner lived in Winter Park, Florida and kept the car for 2-years and 6,500 miles. During their ownership, they serviced the car frequently at the selling dealership. In fact, it was brought in 8 times for routine services before the next owner. Highlights of services include:
Air filter
Alternator
Wing/spoiler repaired
Routine inspections and oil services
10k mile service
Brake fluid flushes
Coolant system flushed
Four-wheel alignment
It was then sold by the same Porsche dealer to a local enthusiast in Orlando, Florida on July 15th, 2016 with 6,545 miles. This owner kept the car for 3-years and 18k miles. During their care, they continued servicing the car regularly at the original selling Porsche dealer. Services during this period include:
Routine oil services, inspections, and brake fluid flushes
Coolant system serviced with bypass pipe and thermostat replaced
30k mile service (6/17 @ 13,558 miles)
The car was then traded to Porsche of North Houston, Texas. This Porsche dealer put the car through its Approved Certified Pre-Owned process and inspection. This includes a 100 point inspection and verification of top condition with no signs of significant damage or repairs as well as a 2-year extended warranty that expires/expired on June 21st of this year. They also made sure all services are up to date. Lastly, they installed new Pirelli PZero tires and performed a four wheel alignment before it was sold to the current owner from Katy, Texas. This owner is the sister of one of our local Los Angeles car friends and previous clients. His whole family is car people who love Porsches.
She bought the car on July 24th, 2019 with 24,960 miles. Unfortunately, due to sporadic weather (too hot or rain) and then Covid, she rarely drove it. She only added another 2,500 miles over the past couple of years. She decided to ship it to us to help find the next owner. During her care, the following services were performed at the Porsche dealer:
Replaced battery (1/20 @ 25,773 miles)
Upgraded heat shield retrofit
Tank leakage diagnostic module, air filter, oil service, inspection (5/20 @ 26,148 miles)
The exterior of this C4S looks fantastic and clearly well cared for. The paint has minimal signs of use. Although it went through Porsche’s strict CPO process, they did not note that several panels had been repainted. Based on paint meter readings, the hood and right side of the car have had some paintwork and blending. It was obviously superficial as there are no signs of significant damage and the Carfax® shows no accidents or damage. The quality of the work was excellent and not noticeable unless using a paint meter. The glass is in good shape with no major chips or scratches. All the proper factory stampings are visible. The glass has been tinted to help protect the interior from the prior Southern locations this car lived. The Targa top canvas is in excellent shape with no rips or heavy wear areas. The wheels are in excellent shape with no major curb rash or blemishes. They are wearing tires installed 2-years/2,500 miles ago. They have at least 75% life remaining. The front brakes have around 75% life and the rears are at about half-life.
The interior is in exceptional shape with no signs of heavy use. The seating surfaces have no rips, tears, or excessive wear. The headliner, carpet, dash, and door panels all look fresh. All the gauges and power functions all work great including the A/C system and full power Targa top. We just sold a sub 1,000 mile example and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference in condition between the two interiors.
This Targa comes with two main keys, owner’s manuals with vinyl cover, tool kit, flat repair kit, air compressor, wheel lock key, and original window sticker.
