If the clay we have is totally dry, it takes a Cutter mattock to break it up enough to shovel it up. It is brick hard.
Mine is one I got from my grandfather. If the clay is wet, it takes a shovel to get a shovel load, then a scraper to scrape off the shovel, something like a smaller shovel, and then a trowel to clean off the scraper, and a paint scraper to clean off the scraper and a stick to clean off the paint scraper.
