At any rate - I've gotten handwritten notes in my mailbox asking if I wanted to sell my '83 SC Targa that used to sit under a tarp on the front drive. Amazing people know the car by it's shape! Also a couple guys stopped by and made an offer without even knowing anything about it, other than it's a 911.
I don't think there was anything wrong on how you handled things, FWIW. Lot of critics in the peanut gallery here....
