Sometimes a breaker needs to be replaced, other times the connections at the receptacle or breaker loosen with age and need to be secured better. Loose connections cause overheating and arcing. Hopefully your house was not built during the period when aluminum wire was used. I have had to replace quite a few outlets with loose connections, and pigtail copper on many an outlet that had aluminum.
If you replace the breaker, do not go to a higher amp. The existing wire will only handle a certain load before the risk of fire.
