Quick Sea Story I have written here before:
My Great Uncle knew Joe DiMaggio. I had lunch with Joe D. at his restaurant a few times in the 60's. Each time he gave me a signed baseball.

Wow, I'd apparently missed that story the previous time(s).
It's one of those stories that now you think, "wow, you played with those balls until they were worthless. Just imagine if you had kept them pristine." But, as a kid in that situation, why wouldn't you play with them. That part is not surprising at all to me, that you played with them until they'd fallen apart. Hell, that's probably a much better use for them rather than having put them under glass for years until you could sell them.
