I've got one without a CD player and it does alright. Sound quality is passable considering you're powering speakers using the head unit versus an actual amplifier. There are no preamp RCAs to add an amp later, so you'd have to do a line-level converter for an amp. Otherwise, it works and looks good in the dash, and the Bluetooth is quick to pick up my phone.
