She had one trick up her sleeve, she brings treats for the dogs. I only feed them their breakfast and dinner, and they get one "dental chew" with each meal and they think it is part of the meal. My wife gives them a treat right before we go to bed, and on occasion if she is in the laundry room and they are both watching intently.
So they don't get many treats day to day. Trying to keep a dachshund slim and not look like a log on legs is hard.
My old doberman was a self feeder. I just put down two bowls of food and she ate what she wanted and stayed slim and fit. If the food bowls were empty, she would bat them around like a cat with a ball of yarn and a hint for me to fill em up. Usually as soon as I filled them, she would sniff, and maybe eat one kibble, and be happy to know food is available. Our male, Reuben would eat until he popped given a chance.
