My mom always had us use chopsticks when we went out for Chinese food. Not many others in the restaurants were using them but I'm glad she did because I'm so proficient with them now.
I went to Japan with 3 other Americans several years ago. I did fine, but they almost starved to death. One restaurant we kept going back to would set our table with silverware when the saw us walking up.
My wife is Thai so of course she's always used them and now I guess I'm going to have to buy us some titanium because of this thread
