Decades ago, just out of engineering school, talking with a buddy with his masters in EE (power & control). I asked him about capacitance solutions (topic being line transmission losses.) He told me how he had done the math... that you could take over a few high(real estate) cost city blocks, fill them with batteries, charge during low usage... and still not make much of a dent in attenuating high usage spikes.

Seems that this proves that out clearly.
