Sportomatic is the devils sandbox. Disc thickness or oil are the usual suspects for slippage as in the tach goes but the car doesn't. I can't remember what problems the torque converter can cause other than leakage. Usually problems with any of the quirky gizmos that make up the sporto shifting system will cause non shifting or grinding, Try to find a shop that has some experience with that unit but hurry as they are considering retirement
