I think auto makers quietly want EVs because it kills the ability for owners and independents shops to work on their car or truck.
EVs are easier to assemble and most components are replaced modularly. They are going to hurt the traditional dealership and indy shop because they require next to no maintenance.

The writing is on the wall for ICE vehicles. They are 20% of our overall carbon emissions and low hanging fruit in the push to slow climate change.

Honestly, I think if many of you who dislike them (why?) tried them, you’d be pleasantly surprised.
