This statement is trotted out here so often that it has become accepted wisdom. It is false. Grid expansion of about 10% per year will be adequate, and that's noit unachievable. On top of that, the capacity of the EV's can bolster the grid during peak demand, rather than hurt it.

They may not force it on you today, but it's the same idea as California SMOG standards forcing the hands of manufacturers all over the US. You wanna sell everywhere ? you abide by the most stringent standard. It IS happening. The question is how long will gas be legal... I fear for my classics, on one hand they might retain value as fun toys from a bygone era, on the other all it takes one motivated politician and the stroke of a pen and they are banned ("they're coming for my car!!!" might happen before the gun thing ;-) I have hopes that the USA with its "particular" freedom culture and geographical imperatives will resist longer. Probably not California though.
True ICE engine development stopped a long time ago. We see incremental changes and minor updates. No one is building new plants and designing all new engines because there is no value in it, no return. The future state isn't just driven by regulations, it's driven by money.
