I went the other way. Was looking for an SC or 3.2 but drove a 964 out of curiosity despite all the warnings from "enthusiasts". Less than a minute into the test drive it was immediately apparent the 964 was special and would be my next 911..
Had the same experience with the 996 about five years later.
