Some guys have what I think of as mechanical sympathy. It probably comes from wrenching so much that they instinctively feel the right amount of torque for most fasteners.
I once had a local mechanic replace the timing belt on my 924S. When I got it home I started reading all the information I had on the procedure and the cautions regarding over or under tensioning of the belt. I got the car to the Porsche shop and asked them to double check for me.
They reported my local guy had nailed it without any specialized tools.
Besides, who publishes torque values for urethane bushings in the subframe of a twenty year old Toyota?
