You have investors, extremely rich guys, collectors, and an assortment of professionals -- dealers, flippers, and the like. The guy who bought this car was someone stupidly rich for whom the difference between 50K and 100K is basically insignificant, who is probably swayed more by presentation and color than by oil consumption, head studs, and looming clutch replacements. Saw a cool car and had to have it, even if he overpaid by some 60K.
By the way, I would never buy a car on BAT. Professional sellers get preferential treatment and I'm convinced that associates of those sellers and other interested parties artificially spike up the prices with early bids.
I couldn't agree more.

Maybe that's why I don't see G-series cars on the road anymore. I used to see them reasonably often and I know they are around, but it appears it has become more about protecting investments than enjoying an good drive.

This also caught my eye because I paid about the same amount ($18k) to the original owner for my '87 3.2 14 years ago. Given that it is extremely clean with only bolt-on mods (and I saved all the original parts, even the cat.) and with under 75k miles, I don't want to think about what it is worth when I am driving it.
