If you don't need to sell it then don't sell it.
Also nothing wrong with going back with a fair market value for it after research - surely if he really wanted it and is a good guy as you say he'd have no qualms with paying fair value.
If you do sell it, don't be surprised to see it reposted for sale for 50k in a week's time.
