The tires are the only interface of your car to the road. I don't buy cheap tires anymore.
When I was 16 and needed tires for my 36 HP 1960 VW bug I did buy bias ply recap tires. With a 0 to 60 of infinite with a headwind and 72 second with a tail wind tires were no the issue. $24 for four tires mounted and balanced tax and fees paid.
Since then, I have only bought radials. I prefer top quality tires. After 30 years of owning my El Camino I have bought a lot of tires. One of my clients long ago was a local tire manufacturer, Dayton tire. They made a tire right here in OKC that was the perfect size for my Elky and cheap. They were fine in the dry, but OMG scary in the rain. Stopping was terrifying on rainy or icy days, and not much difference from wet to ice, just bad. I was really happy to dump those tires and get something better.
