When the were new, they weren't allowed to be licensed for the street in the USA...a few imported for track use only.
(edit) RS lightweight #69 is still the quickest (as opposed to fastest) Porsche I've driven. That was when it was 2nd owner's Roger K's car, around the river road loop here. That was mid 70's..maybe 1976 or '77? We were thinking of a swap...I decided no, because the RS was a bit rough after it's opriginal owner had used it as a hill climb car. I know it had airport gears at the time, and it was originally set up by Max Moritz..I was suspicious that it might be a 2.8, not a 2.7.
Roger got it licensed in Oregon by applying one of those "complies with emission" plaques on the fan shroud...sneaky.
