I guess if I were riding in 2021 I would indeed wear a helmet. I just prefer a climate controlled dry car interior over anything with two wheels and me in the open. Just my preference.

I spent about 5 months a couple/few years ago riding road bikes in preparation for The Houston, MS150.

I wore helmets then, even though 99.9% of my riding was on purpose built areas for cyclists, walkers, etc.... A road bike it different from a 20" bike of the sort that I rode when I was a kid, especially with your feet attached to the pedals, the position that you're in, and the speeds that you see.
