zakthor's post reminded me of the time I pulled out of my driveway and got to 3rd gear before it dawned on me my helmet was still where I had set it down 'for a second ' while i adjusted something.
I remember the feeling I got was about the same as realizing your car had gone into a slide on a snowy road.
The one time I went down I was very glad for the face shield and my gloves. Glad i got the speed off before low siding. Ruined a good jeans jacket. Wore leather after that.
