(she has since given me a key to her home) i was chanting her name and my name.. we are friends. totally on opposite side politically, and she still drops the occasional inappropriate comment about some people. i move on. she effen 92, and wont change now. i'm 50's and still flexible enough to ignore c****.
she calls me family now,..

She's old enough to have come from a time when certain things were normal and acceptable. As you've said, she's unlikely to change.
Maybe she's Walt Kowalski's sister.
My grandfather used a particular word. Apparently, when I was born, my mom told him (her father) to not use it when I was around. I didn't hear him use the word until I was in college. The thing that was odd and hard for me to get my head around was that when he used the word (not frequent), there seemed to be no malice associated with it. He had friends that would have matched that group of folks, and I don't believe that he was racist. He would have been prejudiced against people based on their actions, not their skin color.
