He wasn’t actually my uncle but my dad’s best friend who I was closer to than any of my real uncles for the last 50 years. He and my dad were inseparable for decades and holy smokes, did we have fun.
Skiing in Colorado, hanging out in LaJolla and Minneapolis plus many other trips. He was from the days when guys dropped out of Harvard to join the Army infantry and march off to war. He never talked about it other than a very stern lecture when I wanted to try skydiving once…he had seen too many people die jumping in the war. He would also never buy a German or a Japanese car until he became the GC for Porsche in the U.S. and bought a new 911SC cab in 1983. He did love that car.
He suffered a couple of major tragedies in life but mostly it was happy. Very happy. He will be missed.
