Noticed a small wet spot on the ceiling and wet drywall on the wall below it. Cut out the drywall and discovered that the rubber coupling sleeve connecting the black PVC drain line to the cast iron drain pipe in the wall had failed. What is the advised repair? The house was built in 1985 and the cast iron pipe appears to be in pretty good shape. I currently
have replaced the rubber coupler and will allow every thing to dry and inspect for leaks before closing things back up but wondering if I should remove the case iron pipe and replace it with PVC. Wall location is first floor of two story house on a crawl space. I need to inspect connections below in the crawl to see if there are further problems down there. Are cast iron drain pipes still used in new residential construction?
