Thanks for the suggestions on the importance of alignment. Here are pics of the old coupler before removal and my first attempt at installing the new one. Definitely misaligned and even moreso in the after pic. Will reattempt. The OD of the ABS appears to me to be slightly smaller than the CI but I guess it could be alignment issues.
