Yes, I get that, but at the same time, this is not the case of a person dying with a matching blood type, and she was next on the list.
This is a person who has said "I'm a match to that woman, and I'll donate one of my kidneys to that woman." THis is one living person gifting another living person with an organ, not a random organ from an accident victim. It's not like the donor has said "I've got a good kidney, it's up for grabs. This is a very specific donation from one person to another or no donation is happening. In this circumstance, it is a little bizarre.
I was friends with a couple, the husband had issues. The wife donated an organ to him. Presumably, if they were in the same position, the hospital wouldn't perform the transplant.

"Here I am, willing to be a direct donor to her. It does not affect any other patient on the transplant list," Jaimee Fougner, Leilani Lutali’s kidney donor, told CBS4. "How can I sit here and allow them to murder my friend when I’ve got a perfectly good kidney and can save her life?"
