At Ken Kesey's place.
I visited his old house in La Honda today for a little civil engineering job on the bridge that crosses the creek to get there. It was pretty cool for this long-time Dead Head to stand in the room (pictured) where it all went down with the Dead, the Merry Pranksters, and the acid tests. Say what you will about it, it's part of our history.
I grew up nearby and always knew about the house but never went inside until today. In fact, I used to play football with the Pranksters and the Hell's Angels when I was a little kid back in the 60s. We'd be playing in a parking lot across from Alice's Restaurant, and they'd pile out of their day-glow bus, "Further" and join in the game. They loved hanging out with us kids, since they were like kids themselves. We thought they were weird.
The old piano is still there, on the left, decorated by the Pranksters. Pigpen must have played it.
