I think the soft top on that car could be cool depending on where you are located and what the intended purpose of the car is....more below.

My most recent 911 turbo was a pristine bone stock '03 996TT. Having had a heavily modified 964T I was looking for something I had to tinker with less. The 996TT was exactly that, other than a weeping front radiator I did not have to do much to it at all.

As a GT car was where that car shined, it would eat up highway miles with ease. There was not a lot of boost lag so when you needed to pass someone it was really easy. i would jump in it to run to the airport and really enjoy the 1 and half drive.

It was boring though..... I did canyon drives in it and it built speed quickly and was sure footed with the awd, but there was just something missing. With the 964T I knew if I did not pay attention that car would bite back.

So I started doing a lot of research in around mid 2018 at what I could replace it with. The 996TT had maybe 45K miles on it or so, sport seats and was a really nice car, so it wasn't like it had to go. I looked at 997 and 991 turbos but was pretty convinced I would run into the same issue. As a GT a great all around car and one that would be an ideal daily driver in the warmer months and go on trips in, but I have my motorcycle for that.

I am also a fan of manual transmissions in my fun "toy" cars, so that pretty much knocked out the newer 991 turbos.

The 997 seemed like the sweet spot, still somewhat analog and Porsche nailed the looks in my biased opinion. Still not the classic air cooled look, but just right.

I ended up with a 997.2 GT3RS 3.8, fortunately before they went up in value a ton. The interior is a step up from the 996.2 I had, with good materials for the most part. The carbon fiber trim is an issue but fortunately I do not have much of that. The naturally aspirated motor revs fast as hell and sings such sweet music that while I do use the radio, it isn't a huge priority for me.

It feels planted as well, but like the older cars there is an edge to it, it sucks on the highway (gearing and suspension) compared to the turbo I had, but damn on all of the other roads, yes please. Mine has 19K miles on it, so its higher mileage which is stupid, but whatever I am putting miles on it.

I'd love a 997.2 GT2RS because that would be a combination of the best of both worlds, except I would have to sell my house and live in the car sot that isn't happening.
