I bought some cheapo LED tube-style lights (they look like 4' flourescents) and hang them under the hood. Fantastic illumination.
Also put some el-cheapo LED adhesive strings along the runway of my lift. They do an amazing job of illuminating the underside of a car, from front to back. And if they're not enough, the 4 LED tube light is long enough to reach both runways. It's rare that I need a flashlight for working on a car these days. Sometimes though ...
