I was looking for a personal weapon I could carry in my SV-2 Survival Vest. In those days you could bring your own side arm to the Weapons Chief on the ship, small boys in my case, and they would handle all the logistics involved.
The Weps Chief on the frigate I was on recommenced the FN Browning so I bought one used in 1985 for $250.00 large and got good with it.
That is the one I still have. Are there better options now? Absolutely (and depending), but, as they said in FMJ, paraphrasing: "This is my pistol. There are many others to choose from, but this one is mine."
