You guys are over reacting. From a Type 1 since I was 24 and now 58. Yes you need to be mindful of it and yes be aware and mindful of how much GLUCOSE you eat, not necessarily sugar. A 5'5 A1C is not the end of the end of the world and putting you in the grave. In ALL things moderation is the key, not some knee jerk reaction. Diabetes's is a cash cow and suppliers want you to get up in arms so you rush out and but their products. A baked potatoe can cause your blood sugar to go higher than a candy bar. Rice? you betcha, chips and salsa, oh yeah. However be moderate enjoy life.

I have had issues, went blind for 3 months back in 18 and last year had triple by pass lst year during COVID. All diabetic related. I currently have an insulin pump ( now that SOB is a PIA!) but it keeps the A1C where it should be. Will I eventually die from this, yep, unless a tragedy happens, but hey its life.

As said earlier, watch the diet, and that's for anyone, but don't get overly excited. Again this disease is a cash cow. Now after I type this I need to Bolus in my pump so I can eat this bowl of Gumbo and fired shrimp.
