Compared to a US Navy ships, which have to fight and survive, merchant ships are actually manned properly in my mind.

I did an Air Boss tour on an Amphibious command ship that was steam powered. Yikes.
Pictures of the bridges...I qualified for Officer of the Deck Underway and had my own watch section.
As you can see, the bridge is a little less modern than the Merchant's.
I will say that the engineering space on every Navy ship I have been one were immaculate and really interesting. I spent a lot of hours in the engineering spaces.
