Few of the adult professional drummers I have worked with had her skill. If nothing else, we expect drummers to be the Seargent At Arms in terms of the beat. The meter. For a good musician, a drummer who is dead-accurate creates a sonic challenge. "Lets try to hit these notes at the SAME TIME." There are drummers who show us that we can't really even tap our feet accurately. At five years old, she was one of those drummers. I don't care if a drummer gets fancy with lots of fills, in fact the better ones don't do that. Heck....the skill of a drummer often seems inversely proportional to the number of pieces in their kit. We just want them to keep the beat. I have played with drummers like that, but they are the exception and not the rule.
I'm going to audition for another project two Sundays from now. Based on the videos, their drummer is decent but heavy-handed. I'm also not crazy about loud drummers. They are the reason we invented plexiglass. I digress.
