A couple months ago I went to San Diego to see a nephew graduate from Marine Corp bootcamp. I went with a brother-in-law who is retired Army. We got to San Diego with a couple hours with nothing to do so we went to visit the VA cemetary on Fort Rosecrans which is on Point Loma. From the cemetary one can see the sub base. I was looking at a couple boats in the water and I saw how much the Navy has shrunk. When I was there 30 years ago there were 2 tenders, 2 drydocks and maybe 24 subs. This time both tenders are gone, only a couple subs I could see and only one drydock.
