I used to work at a retail auto parts store in the hood.
Folks used to come in fairly frequently and buy
a few of the eye dropper battery electrolyte testers (made from glass)

the cheap $1 pliers and a handful of lighters.
They'd bite the test tubes to make sure they were glass instead of plastic (for anti-freeze) to ensure that they wouldn't melt.
When the manager realized what was going on, he'd group them near the register for convenient shopping.
