I have a 2019 Cayenne (base). I had a Porsche approved body shop install a Porsche trailer hitch (receiver and 7-way connector) as part of some rear quarter panel damage that they were repairing. I have an Airstream Basecamp travel trailer that I tow. I first bought a Curt Echo controller that was installed by the Airstream dealer. It uses a Bluetooth connection to an app on my iPhone. It was impossible to adjust the sensitivity on the controller - I either got no trailer braking at all or too much so that the trailer would jerk to a stop. I replaced the Curt with a Tekonsha Prodigy controller which is Bluetooth to a small hand-held controller that plugs into the Cayenne's power socket and has a wheel to adjust sensitivity for normal stops and a pushbutton to apply the trailer brakes without the Cayenne brakes to control unwanted trailer sway. I works perfectly and I would strongly recommend it over the Curt.
However, when I tow the trailer, the Adaptive Cruise Control will stop working after 20-30 miles and stays inoperative until I remove the trailer and drive for maybe 20-30 miles. Then it works perfectly again. I have taken it to the local Porsche dealer three times (all after it starts working again) and they are unable to find anything. Once there was a C110300 (ACC sensor misadjusted) but they said that this was implausible. It's possible that the tongue weight of the trailer causes the rear of the Cayenne to sink enough to affect the aim of the sensor. However, if this was the case, I would expect the lower rear to be visible and drivability to be affected. Also, the trailer weight is 2600 lbs. much less than the towing capacity of the Cayenne of 7700 lbs. I would expect the rear springs to be stiff enough to not deflect enough at a load of less than half of the towing capacity to misalign the sensor.. I realize that the tongue weight is different than the trailer weight, but I am careful to keep the loaded weight of the trailer less than maximum, which is 3500 lbs. The height of the tow ball was set by the Airstream tech at the time I took delivery of the trailer. One time the ACC started to work again while I was towing, which is really confusing. I would appreciate any thoughts on this problem.
