Windows 11
Welp, my computer told me it was time to upgrade to Windows 11 on Monday.
First I figured in the belts, suspenders and glue method of solid backups. I cloned my boot drive to an external drive, and did a full backup of boot drive and work drives to my RAID, and copied a backup file to an external drive. Then I made sure I could boot from a USB thumb drive to run the backup program (Acroness) that I use.
So today, while watching TV, I hit the download and install button. It takes a while even with my "Gigabit" internet connection. Several reboots, and ta-da Windows 11 in here.
So far all seems fine. With Firefox and Pandora running the system is using 12 GB of RAM, or 5% of available memory.
Office 365 works fine of course so my Outlook Email is fine. All my favorites are still there in Firefox. So far there is little difference, except no more right click on the task bar to get Task Manager. It is now an "app" that I run.
When did programs suddenly become an app? I presume that is all due to cell phones.
Anyway, I am supposed to have a week to decide if I really like it, and of not, uninstall it and go back to Win 10 Pro. I will run all the programs I have, (I refuse to call a program an app on my computer) to make sure all of them will work.
The biggest reason I upgraded is the programs we pay BIG money for to do aerial photography and mapping all have said Win 11 will be required in the near future. I figure I may as well accept the fact that Win 11 is here, and jump on board.
So like the skydiver just after he jumps out of the airplane, so far so good!
I will report back on any issues I have.
